Book Reviews

Everlasting Rose by Dhonielle Clayton

Summary From Goodreads

This sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller, Camille, her sister Edel, and her guard and new love Remy must race against time to find Princess Charlotte. Sophia’s Imperial forces will stop at nothing to keep the rebels from returning Charlotte to the castle and her rightful place as queen. With the help of an underground resistance movement called The Iron Ladies-a society that rejects beauty treatments entirely-and the backing of alternative newspaper The Spider’s Web, Camille uses her powers, her connections and her cunning to outwit her greatest nemesis, Sophia, and restore peace to Orleans

I was very excited to read this book after finishing the Belles. Which I really enjoyed. In this book Camille and Remy are in the run and they are trying to bring down princess Sophia.

There were a lot of new things introduced in this book which I felt changed the tone of the book. The first book was lighter and was less intense. This book was much more action packed and there was a lot more happening. We meet the Iron Ladies, who are like the resistance and they help Camille and her sisters to defeat Sophia. The idea of being able to grow Belles was interesting and reminded me of similar themes in Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young.

“You need to understand the value of beauty and how it creates deficiencies in the world. Deficiency is a weakness. Beauty is power. It creates a need to desire and want. ”
-Madam Du Barry
I really enjoyed the details about the glamour and how the Belles where able to change their own appearance. I also like the teacup dragons! I wish I could have a teacup dragon too!!

I didn’t like this book as much as the first one. It was entertaining and I enjoyed reading it but it wasn’t as good as the first book. I feel like some parts were a little rushed in this book.

      1. For me? There was not enough of the group she met up with and I cant think of the name. The middle part just dragged and than the ending was completely rushed.
